الوصف الوظيفي
Provide confidential, accessible counselling and wellbeing support to students facing personal, emotional, psychological or study-related difficulties. Assess needs and risk, offer support within professional competence, and connect students with specialist services when needed. Contribute to a supportive college environment while maintaining clear professional boundaries.
Key responsibilities
Provide individual counselling, brief interventions and follow-up for students experiencing concerns such as stress, anxiety, grief, relationships, family or financial pressures, academic difficulties and other emotional challenges, within the counsellor’s competence and the scope of the college service.
Explain the counselling service, obtain informed consent, agree support goals and explain confidentiality and its limits before beginning work with a student.
Assess and document safety concerns, including risk of suicide, self-harm or harm to others. Follow the college’s approved urgent response and escalation procedures, arrange immediate specialist or emergency support when indicated, and document actions and follow-up.
Recognise when needs exceed the college service’s scope, including circumstances requiring psychiatric, medical or other specialist care. Coordinate referral in line with college procedures and applicable consent and confidentiality requirements.
Maintain accurate, timely and secure counselling records; restrict access and share information only as authorised under college policy and applicable requirements.
Receive self-referrals and appropriate referrals from academic and student support staff. Work with students and colleagues to support access while keeping counselling content confidential.
Support students whose wellbeing affects their studies, and, with the student’s agreement where appropriate, coordinate with Academic Advisors and relevant services.
Make the service visible through student induction, clear access information and appropriate outreach, including planned contact with student hostels in coordination with Hostel Wardens.
Plan and deliver mental wellbeing education and prevention activities with SSGD and relevant partners. Offer guidance to staff on recognising concerns and making referrals without disclosing student counselling information.
Provide professional input on student wellbeing in college processes when requested. Maintain a clear separation between the therapeutic relationship and disciplinary investigation or decision-making.
Provide the Head of SSGD with periodic, de-identified service reports covering activity, themes, referrals and service improvement needs, at least once each semester. Escalate immediate operational or safety issues under approved procedures.
Participate in professional supervision, continuing professional development and relevant professional networks; review service procedures and referral pathways regularly.
Carry out other duties reasonably related to student counselling and wellbeing, as assigned by the Head of SSGD and consistent with professional and confidentiality obligations.
